When I was in Kabul in 2005 working on the parliamentary elections, US convoys would be met by kids waving their arms happily on the side of the road. You don’t see this anymore. No more thumbs up. And people seem distant, cold. Elections can’t fix everything, it is a process only, but let’s hope it will give people back the hopes they have lost in the past years. But not empty ones!
